SDC RADIO NETWORKS TOP 50 ARTISTS OF 2014

By IFSyndicated News Writers

MEMPHIS TN (IFS) – It was in 1983, that the idea of a record company powered radio station would be possible. The idea was KDRC, a cassette based collection of songs that was compiled by Kenny Smith from all of the submissions that were submitted to D-Town/Platinum Sound Records. After several years of cassette productions, Smith continued with the collection until 1993, when he opened his first internet account with Broadcast.Com and launched KDTN Radio One.

In those days, the entertainment community laughed at guys and girls like Smith who was starting internet radio stations. It was hard to get licenses from the majors to play the music. So, as a recording company, the deal was that if D-Town Records listened to your music, you would have to let everyone listen to your music, and your music would be distributed to all the major recording labels and music publishers. The artist owned all the rights to his music and we would just help them get it into the hands of the people who wanted to work with them.

We did not have a “brick and mortar” terrestrial station, it was just internet based. In those days, less than one (1 %) percent of all radio stations had a voice on the internet. It was all based on Ted Turner’s Super Stations idea with the satellite across the world. The internet was just that platform, and a few of the early pioneers saw the future very clearly.

After the laughter has died out now, and more than 99% of all radio stations are now on the internet, no one is laughing anymore. It is estimated that over 485 Million internet radio stations are online today, with many more coming. It got very serious when the late comers, Apple, MSN, and other decided to open up their own stations.

So a little unknown record company that started its’ own radio stations against all logic, to every record company today with its’ own stations, the game has come a long way.

The songs that are played by SDC Radio Networks are received from every corner of the world. SDC Radio Networks is one of the oldest playlists on the internet. It has help to create over a dozen Grammy Award winners, several Emmy winners, and revived a lot of old songs that were stars in many television commercials.

SDC Radio has expanded into over seven radio stations, with their fingers in all gentries of the music business, including three (3) talk radio stations, over twenty (20) blog magazines and several movies.

So with enough said about the good ole days of internet radio, several of these stations have been sold for millions of dollars. So with that in mind, SDC Radio Networks present to you, the Top 50 Artists of 2014, along with some great flashbacks of years gone by. We thank each and every artist for their music, and every listener that tuned into us just for a couple of minutes just to have a good time. We thank you for listening.

Hundreds Turn Their Back on de Blasio at NYPD Officer's Funeral

Hundreds of police officers turned their backs on a screen showing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio as he spoke at the funeral of one of two officers killed last week in what has been called an "assassination."

The funeral at the Christ Tabernacle Church, in the Glendale neighborhood of Queens, was broadcast to thousands of police who gathered outside.
The killing of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu came amid heightened tensions between the police and the mayor over what some police saw as a lack of support for the force.
The atmosphere was mostly respectful, but there were scattered signs of protest even before the police officers action when the mayor spoke
A block from the church, though, retired NYPD Officer John Mangan held a sign that read: "God Bless the NYPD. Dump de Blasio."
In his speech, the mayor seemed to try to reach out to police, honoring not only Ramos, but the entire NYPD.
After directing his remarks to the Ramos family, he said he wanted to "extend my condolences to another family -- the family of the NYPD -- that is hurting so deeply right now."
The night after Ramos and Liu were shot, officers gathered at the hospital where they had been taken turned teir backs on de Blasio when he arrived.
De Blasio created controversy with his response to demonstrations about police relations with minorities, after a grand jury declined to indict an NYPD officer in the death of Eric Garner, a Staten Island man who died after he was put in a chokehold during an arrest for selling loose cigarettes.
The mayor, whose wife is black, said he has spoken to his mixed race teen son about how he should act if he is stopped by police.
In speaking about protesters who were arrested and charged with assaulting police during a demonstration in New York, de Blasio used the word "allegedly," which some in the NYPD seemed to take as a slight.
Patrolmens Benevolent Association president Patrick Lynch and de Blasio have been locked in a public battle over treatment of officers following the grand jury's decision.
The week before the shooting of Ramos and Liu, the PBA leader suggested police officers sign a petition demanding that the mayor not attend their funerals should they die on the job.

Al Jazeera America Viewers Down Nearly 50 Percent From Current TV’s Numbers

Al Jazeera America Viewers Down Nearly 50 Percent From Current TV’s Numbers

al-jazeera-america-tca.jpg
After 14 months on-air, the network is down 44 percent in total day ratings compared to its predecessor
The winner and loser of the lawsuit between Al Jazeera America and former Current TV CEO Al Gore is yet to be determined, but ratings comparisons between the two show a clear winner.
After buying Current TV in early 2013, and debuting over the summer that year, Al Jazeera has lost almost half of Current TV’s audience.
Current TV’s run with progressive news programming lasted from December, 2011 to August, 2013. In that timespan, the network ran programs like “The Young Turks,” “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” “The War Room with Jennifer Granholm,” “Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer,” and “Joy Behar: Say Anything.”  Upon being bought by Al Jazeera, Current was in 60 million American homes.
Al Jazeera America was born as the opposite of Current TV, possessing no political point of view and no opinion program in favor of hard news and in-depth reporting. It hired veteran news anchors and reporters from previous networks, including former NBC News anchor John Seigenthaler; former CNN anchors Tony Harris and Ali Velshi; former CNN correspondent Joie Chen; former MSNBC anchor David Shuster; former NBC News White House Correspondent Mike Viqueira, former PBS journalist Ray Suarez, and several other veteran TV news personalities.
Its lineup of journalists hasn’t translated to ratings. When comparing Al Jazeera America’s ratings to date to Current TV’s ratings from December, 2011 to August, 2013, the numbers show significant losses. In total day, AJAM is down 44 percent compared to Current TV; in the 25-54 demo, the channel is down 55 percent. In primetime viewers, AJAM is down 49 percent compared to Current TV; in the primetime demo, down 54 percent.
In its 14 months on-air, AJAM is averaging 14,000 viewers 5,000 demo viewers for total day. In primetime, its averaging 18,000 viewers and 6,000 demo viewers.
The network is currently distributed in 60 million homes, seen on providers like DIRECTV, Comcast/ XFINITY, Time Warner Cable, DISH, AT&T U-Verse, Verizon FiOS, and Bright House Networks.
We reached out to Al Jazeera America for this story, but did not receive a response. Previously, network president Kate O’Brien has expressed confidence that ratings will come as more people sample the network.

Arizona court tosses charges against woman on death row for 22 years

Arizona court tosses charges against woman on death row for 22 years

Woman on Arizona's death row for 22 years has had murder charges against her dismissed
December 11, 2014, 6:20 PM

An Arizona appeals court has dismissed murder charges against Debra Jean Milke, who spent 22 years on death row in connection with the 1989 death of her son..

In a decision released Thursday, the court ruled that Milke could not be tried again because such a proceeding would constitute double jeopardy. Milke was convicted of first-degree murder but the conviction was overturned more than a year ago by a federal court.Milke was released from prison on Sept. 5, 2013, according to Doug Nick, a spokesman for the state Department of Corrections.
The Arizona Court of Appeals has ruled that charges can't be refiled against Debra Milke in the 1989 death of her son. (Arizona Department of Corrections)

The case became a cause celebre in Arizona because in 1990 she was the first woman to be sentenced to death there since 1932. Milke, whose mother was German, also drew support from Germany and Switzerland, which have no death penalty.

A spokesman for the Maricopa County prosecutor said the decision would be appealed to the state’s Supreme Court. A defense lawyer declined to discuss the case.

The case began in 1989 with the death of Milke’s 4-year-old son, Christopher, whose body was found in the desert outside Phoenix.

The prosecution argued that Milke had two men kill her son. The men, Roger Scott and Jim Styers, were convicted and are on death row.

At her trial in 1990, Milke was convicted of state charges including first-degree murder. The case relied on the testimony of Phoenix police Det. Armando Saldate, who said that Milke had confessed.
There was no recording of the confession, but jurors believed the detective, who has since retired.
Milke insisted she was innocent and denied any confession. She eventually appealed to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. The federal appeals court cited numerous instances in which Saldate committed misconduct in previous cases and ruled that the state should have told the defense about those incidents.

Prosecutors had been planning to retry Milke for murder next year, but Saldate balked at testifying for fear of federal misconduct charges.

Meanwhile, Milke sought dismissal of the entire case, arguing that there was no other evidence aside from her purported, and contested, confession.

In its ruling, the Arizona court granted Milke’s request “because of the state’s severe, egregious prosecutorial misconduct in failing to disclose impeachment evidence.”  Follow @latimesmuskal for national news.

Candy Crowley Out at CNN

Candy Crowley Out at CNN: Read Jeff Zucker's Internal Memo

Candy Crowley Out at CNN: Read Jeff Zucker's Internal Memo

The “State of the Union” host exits CNN after 27 years
Longtime CNN political anchor Candy Crowley is leaving the network, insiders familiar with the situation confirmed to The Wrap.

In a memo obtained by TheWrap, network president Jeff Zucker announced the news.
December 5, 2014
In her 27 years at CNN, Candy Crowley has been one of the most important and impactful journalists on our air. Since she joined us in 1987, her assignments have taken her to all 50 states, covering a broad range of political stories, including presidential, congressional and gubernatorial races. Candy made her mark covering the presidential campaigns of Pat Buchanan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Howard Dean, Bob Dole, Jesse Jackson, Edward Kennedy, John Kerry, Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan and Mitt Romney. And as we all remember, she made her mark yet again in 2012 when she became the first woman to moderate a presidential debate in 20 years.

To say she lives and breathes politics is more than an understatement. She has an innate ability to sense its nuance, push its limits, and ask questions that others won't. She is beloved in Washington even by those that she so skillfully takes to task on Sunday mornings. And she's an award-winning journalist – taking home everything from a Peabody and Emmys to an Edward R. Murrow award. She is a television news icon.
Thus, it is with mixed emotions, that I wanted to let you know that Candy has let us know that she has made the decision to move on, so she can embark on the next chapter of her already prolific career. As difficult as it is for us to imagine CNN without Candy, we know that she comes to this decision thoughtfully, and she has our full support. There will be more time in the weeks ahead for all of you who have been lucky enough to work with Candy to share your own thanks for all she has done. But for now, on behalf of everyone at CNN, I want to extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation.
Jeff
CNN confirms to TheWrap Crowley will still host “State of the Union” this coming Sunday, where she'll interview former President George W. Bush.

No word on who will replace Crowley as host of Sunday's “State of the Union,” airing at 9am ET. Top contenders would be CNN anchor Jake Tapper, who was brought over from ABC and is one of CNN's top political anchors, former “State of the Union” anchor John King, who now hosts “Inside Politics” at 8:30amET right before “SOTU,” or someone under the radar.

Let's not forget, former “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory has been linked to CNN, and might be an ideal fit for Zucker, knowing each other from their respective NBC News days.
Another dark horse: Katie Couric, who has been serving as Yahoo News’ Global Anchor, but insiders tell TheWrap is “itching to get back on TV.”

The Sunday morning political shows are a vital ratings opportunity for broadcast networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, who air “This Week,” “Face the Nation,” “Meet the Press,” and “Fox News Sunday” respectively.

It has never been a big ratings hit on cable news, so Zucker might have that in mind when choosing Crowley's replacement.

Crowley had a long career at CNN, reporting and then anchoring in close to three decades. A bright spot for Crowley happened in 2012, when she became the first female to moderate a presidential debate in more than 20 years.
