Latest bid to collect judgment from OJ Simpson turned down

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — A judge on Tuesday turned down a legal move that sought to force O.J. Simpson to turn over profits from autographs to satisfy a $70 million-plus civil judgment for the 1994 killings of the former football star's ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Gerald Rosenberg denied the request on grounds that Goldman's father, Fred, cannot identify who is paying Simpson.

The ruling was made quickly after the request was made by Goldman family attorney David Cook.

Simpson was acquitted of two counts of murder in the 1994 slayings, but a civil court jury found him liable for wrongful death and ordered him to pay $33.5 million, which has more than doubled over two decades.

Fred Goldman has hounded Simpson for years and Cook contends the former football star has never willingly paid a cent of the court order.

"Mr. Simpson has sought to subvert this wrongful death judgment by his abject refusal to pay, much less accept personal responsibility," Cook said in court papers.

Simpson sold autographs shortly after his release from a Nevada prison in October to pay legal bills and has no interest in signing memorabilia, one of his lawyers, Malcolm LaVergne, said in court papers objecting to any order relinquishing his right to publicity.

Goldman and Cook have "attempted to drag Mr. Simpson into court every time they hear a rumor, see something on television, or read in an internet news posting, a mere vague allegation involving Mr. Simpson's commercial exploitation of himself," attorney Ronald Slates wrote in court papers on behalf of Simpson.

While most of the court award has been unpaid, Fred Goldman has been able to seize some of the Pro Football Hall of Famer's assets, including video game royalties and the rights to the book "If I Did It," a ghostwritten account in which Simpson tells how he might have killed his ex-wife and Ron Goldman.

Goldman was also able to acquire memorabilia Simpson claimed he was trying to take back when he led five men, two with guns, into a Las Vegas casino hotel in September 2007 to confront two sports collectibles dealers.

Simpson, 70, served nine years in Nevada state prison for armed robbery and assault with a weapon in an ill-fated bid to retrieve memorabilia.

Warfarin (brand names Coumadin and Jantoven) is a prescription medication used to prevent harmful blood clots from forming or growing larger. Beneficial blood clots prevent or stop bleeding, but harmful blood clots can cause a heart attack, stroke, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.

If you've been prescribed warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven) to prevent blood clots, you probably already know that this powerful drug can save your life if you are at risk of or have had blood clots. But you may not realize how serious warfarin side effects can be.

Warfarin, especially if taken incorrectly, increases your risk of dangerous bleeding. Warfarin side effects can also include interactions with some foods, prescription medicines, and over-the-counter supplements.

If your doctor prescribes warfarin for you, make sure you understand all the potential warfarin side effects and interactions it could have.

When is warfarin prescribed?

You might be given warfarin if you have:

• A blood clot in or near your heart that could trigger stroke, heart attack or organ damage
• A blood clot in your lungs (pulmonary embolism)
• A blood clot elsewhere in your body (venous thrombosis)
• A high risk of blood clots forming in the heart, which can be a complication of some heart rhythm abnormalities (arrhythmias)
• A mechanical artificial heart valve that is prone to forming blood clots

What warfarin side effects should you watch for?

When you take warfarin, your blood won't clot as easily. If you accidentally cut yourself while taking warfarin, you may bleed heavily. However, the risk of a major bleeding event is low.

You're more likely to have bleeding problems if you're older than 75 or take other blood-thinning medications that can further increase your bleeding risk.

You're also at higher risk of bleeding problems if you have:

• High blood pressure (hypertension)
• A history of stroke
• Kidney problems
• Cancer
• Alcoholism
• Liver disease

Some studies suggest that bleeding problems are more likely to occur during the first month of taking warfarin rather than later in treatment.

Warfarin side effects that require immediate medical attention

• Severe bleeding, including heavier than normal menstrual bleeding
• Red or brown urine
• Black or bloody stool
• Severe headache or stomach pain
• Joint pain, discomfort or swelling, especially after an injury
• Vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
• Bruising that develops without an injury you remember
• Dizziness or weakness

Rarely, warfarin can cause the death of skin tissue (necrosis). This complication occurs most often three to eight days after you start taking warfarin. If you notice any sores, changes in skin color or temperature, or severe pain on your skin, seek immediate medical care.

Less serious warfarin side effects to tell your doctor about

• Bleeding from the gums after you brush your teeth
• Swelling or pain at an injection site
• Heavier than normal menstrual bleeding or bleeding between menstrual periods
• Diarrhea, vomiting or inability to eat for more than 24 hours
• Fever

Former White House aide Omarosa Manigault may have taped private conversations with other West Wing staffers during her stint in the White House, according to a new report.

The former director of communications for the White House Office of Public Liaison is concerned that she could become a focus in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia’s election interference because of the alleged recordings, the New York Daily News reported Friday.

Manigault has met with high-profile attorneys in the instance that Mueller’s investigators want to question her.

A White House source, however, brushed off the idea that Manigault would have had access to any information relevant to Mueller’s investigation, the report said.

Manigault left her White House position last month, however, her resignation becomes official on the one-year anniversary of Trump’s inauguration.
